Luscious vibrancy in a bottle. I love Roussanne. 100% Zaca Mesa fruit, one of the rare plantings in Santa Barbara County. Fermented long and cool on Chardonnay lees adding a slight reductive sexiness full of saline to balance the bombastic fruit. We planted 3/4 of an acre of Roussanne at Robert Rae in the Sta. Rita Hills. Watch out for that beauty in couple of years time. We are just warming up. Roussanne was fermented in a small stainless steel tank on Chardonnay lees long.
Ripe melon, salty lemon and white flower aromas show on the nose of this bottling, which hints at density. The palate's peachy core is rich but cut by some white flower elegance and a textured acidity.
Sonja said she was inspired to make Roussanne from Qupé and Bob Lindquist, I tasted a 10-year-old Roussanne, I had never had anything like that in my life, speaking of that elusive character and the nature of it, I was just curious to see what this grape would do.” Barrel-fermented in neutral oak, it’s textured, full body reveals ripe stonefruit and a mineral character, with balanced acidity bringing it all together.
