A stone fruit aromatic ripeness, then in the mouth is then quite cool and fresh, with excellent harmonized length. Very flinty with a ton of grilled grapefruit this is a dangerously energetic dry Mosel Riesling. The concentration and brilliance are both almost off the scale. The minerality is only just beginning to reveal itself. Limited production. Drinkable now, but best after 2024, long ageability. This Geierslay is expressive, very aromatic!!! The wine has a very long finish, supple, citrus finish with refreshing acidity.
“This excellent dry village wine is brimming with peachy fruit. There are also fascinating nuances of grapefruit and wildflowers. Very juicy on the medium-bodied palate, this has a wonderful spring-like freshness. The salty touch in the finish adds tension. Mainly from the Geierslay site. Drink or hold. Screw cap.” 93 points Stuart Piggott
We are a third-generation winery in Brauneberg. We took over the business from our parents and are continuing the tradition that our family started over a hundred years ago. A wife and husband team, Sammie and Stefan Steinmetz brings you tradition, innovation and craft in every bottle representing the classic characteristics of German wine bursting with flavors.
They practice what they call “natural viticulture,” which means using no fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides, plus controlling yields and carefully harvesting and sorting by hand. They’ve focused on acquiring plots of old, own-rooted Riesling parcels when possible. The Brauneberger Juffer site is the trademark of their winery, and they also own plots in such famous sites as Kestener Paulinshofberg, Piesporter Goldtröpfchen, Wintricher Geierslay and Oligsberg, Mülheimer Sonnenlay, Veldenzer, Grafschafter Sonnenberg, and Dhroner Hofberg. The extremely steep slopes in these areas mean that they can only be worked by hand.
