In 1980, Dr. Bassett and Marcela Brown purchased a ranch in the eastern hills of Napa Valley, planted mostly Zinfandel, and spent a decade selling grapes to local winemakers. In 1995, their children — Deneen, David, and Coral Brown — founded Brown Estate, bottled their first vintage of Zinfandel in 1996, and built one of the most highly acclaimed and fully Black-owned and operated wineries in Napa Valley. Everything that came after was built on that foundation. House of Brown is the second-generation label under the Brown Estate umbrella: a modern, inclusive, more accessible expression of the family’s vision, anchored by Deneen Brown’s singular creative direction. Her mandate was clear — a brand that was fashionable, diverse, and affordable, where, in her words, “everyone was welcome.” The bottle design — inspired by fashion magazines, wrapped in a collage of people of different genders and ethnicities interwoven with fruits and flowers — is the visual statement of that welcome.

The 2024 House of Brown Sauvignon Blanc is brand new to the label: fresh, lean, and savory, made from regeneratively farmed, certified sustainable grapes from Lodi, California, with a 95% Sauvignon Blanc / 5% Chenin Blanc blend that adds just enough weight and texture to elevate the wine beyond the expected. Direct press, limited skin contact, vegan-friendly. Ethereal golden flax in the glass with aromatics of Meyer lemon cream, key lime zest, fennel fronds, white jasmine, and wet stone minerality. On the palate: white peach, green melon, chamomile, green apple peel, and a hint of sea spray. Effortlessly crisp, savory, and mineral-driven — a Sauvignon Blanc that reflects the same care and intentionality the Brown family has brought to every bottle since 1996.

About House of Brown & Brown Estate

Brown Estate was founded in 1995 by Deneen, David, and Coral Brown — the children of Dr. Bassett and Marcela Brown, who purchased a ranch in Napa Valley’s eastern hills in 1980. From their first vintage of Zinfandel in 1996, Brown Estate grew into one of the most respected and celebrated Black-owned wineries in the United States — a fully family-owned and operated estate producing sustainably grown Napa Valley wines of exceptional quality. House of Brown is the family’s second-generation label: more accessible in price, broader in sourcing, and anchored by Deneen Brown’s vision of a brand that is modern, fashionable, diverse, and open. The bottle itself — a fashion magazine-inspired collage of people of different genders and ethnicities, interwoven with fruits and flowers — is the most literal expression of the label’s founding principle: everyone is welcome here.

Food Pairing

The Meyer lemon cream, key lime zest, fennel fronds, white jasmine, white peach, green melon, chamomile, and sea spray minerality of this Lodi Sauvignon Blanc make it one of the most naturally food-versatile and genuinely refreshing whites in the collection. Pairs beautifully with Petrale sole, halibut, and sea bass prepared with mild seasoning — the crisp acidity and saline mineral notes mirror delicate white fish with remarkable precision. The savory fennel and chamomile character make it a wonderful companion for Alfredo pasta, pesto dishes, and anything with fresh herb and light cream sauces. Also excellent alongside cheese and charcuterie boards — particularly with fresh goat cheese, mild brie, and herb-marinated olives. A natural for summer entertaining, BBQs, picnics, and any occasion that calls for a bright, elegant, mission-driven white wine at an exceptional value. Serve at 44–48°F.

Regeneratively farmed. Certified sustainable. Everyone welcome. At $22, one of the most rewarding and purposeful white wines in the collection.
