Dangerously energetic and almost off-the-scale in concentration, this 2024 Steinmetz Wintricher Trocken Riesling is a bone-dry Mosel Riesling of extraordinary brilliance. Expressive, aromatic, and alive with stone fruit, grilled grapefruit, and a minerality that is only just beginning to reveal itself, this is a wine built for both immediate pleasure and long-term aging. Rated 93 Points by Stuart Pigott, from a Black-owned, woman-owned, third-generation family winery in the heart of the Mosel. Limited production.
Wine Details & Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes: Stone fruit aromatic ripeness on the nose, then cool and fresh on the palate with excellent harmonized length. Very flinty with grilled grapefruit and a dangerously energetic dry character. The concentration and brilliance are almost off the scale, with a minerality only just beginning to reveal itself. Very long finish with supple citrus and refreshing acidity. Brimming with peachy fruit with fascinating nuances of grapefruit and wildflowers. Juicy and medium-bodied with a wonderful spring-like freshness and a salty touch in the finish that adds tension. Drinkable now, best after 2024, with long ageability.

Food Pairing
The electric acidity, stone fruit richness, and flinty minerality of this Trocken Riesling make it one of the most versatile food wines you can pour. Pairs beautifully with grilled halibut, pan-seared scallops, and fresh oysters. The grapefruit and wildflower notes make it a natural match for Asian-inspired dishes — Thai green curry, Vietnamese spring rolls, and anything with ginger or lemongrass. Also excellent alongside aged goat cheese, grilled shrimp, and herb-forward salads. Serve well chilled at 45–50°F to preserve the vibrant aromatics and spring-like freshness.
Occasion
This is your go-to prestige white for spring and summer entertaining, wine dinners, and gifting the Riesling enthusiast who appreciates world-class dry German wine with a meaningful story. A standout choice for anyone exploring the heights of Mosel Trocken Riesling, and a wine that rewards both immediate enjoyment and patient cellaring.
Wine Producer / Historical Notes
Steinmetz is a third-generation, Black-owned, woman-owned family winery in Brauneberg, in the heart of the Mosel-Saar-Ruwer. Sammie and Stefan Steinmetz continue a tradition their family started over a hundred years ago, bringing together heritage, innovation, and craft in every bottle. The winery practices natural viticulture — no fertilizers, herbicides, or insecticides — with controlled yields and careful hand-harvesting and sorting. Steinmetz has focused on acquiring plots of old, own-rooted Riesling parcels across prestigious sites including the Brauneberger Juffer, Kestener Paulinshofberg, Piesporter Goldtropfchen, Wintricher Geierslay, and Dhroner Hofberg. The extremely steep slopes of these sites can only be worked by hand. Stuart Pigott of JamesSuckling.com champions Steinmetz’s dry Mosel Rieslings for their breathtaking intensity and off-the-scale concentration.
