Derthona is the ancient name for Tortona, the town in southeast Piemonte, hence the appellation Colli Tortonesi (Tortona Hills) name. The Timorasso is widely believed to be one of the longest-aging white varieties in Italy, with many of the producers saying it takes a few years to get itself together in the bottle, adding a depth of flavor and making more of a palate impact with honeyed notes. It deserves serious attention, going well with a variety of foods including poultry, pork and fatty fish and decedent shellfish, even lobster or crab dishes.
"Elegant and full-bodied, this offers aromas of beeswax, botanical herb and hazelnut alongside the barest hint of petrol. The rounded, enveloping palate features ripe yellow stone fruit, honeyed almond and a ginger note before a saline finish. Enjoy now or hold for more complexity. Drink through 2026."
92James Suckling
Really perfumed and aromatic with lemon rind and dried pear, as well as licorice. It’s full-bodied with phenolic tension to the palate and a cooked-pear finish.
