Teroldego is an Italian grape variety that grows very well in Maryland.
With hints of espresso, this medium bodied red wine has notes of pomegranate and plum, and inviting lingering layers of tannin. Teroldego is classically a dry, smooth red, full of dark fruits and an elegant finish. This wine is aged in French and American oak for 10 months.
The Teroldego grape origin is documented as far back as the Middle-ages from Trentino-Alto Adige in North East Italy, where the word Teroldego means "the gold of Tyrol". It is genetically related to Syrah, Lagrein and Pinot Noir.
Philosophy vineyards began with a sisterhood between over a decade ago between two colleagues; Kimberly T. Johnson and Denise Roles Matthews. As their friendship evolved, they discovered a mutual core desire to seek wisdom and live a purpose driven life. As a result of that desire and commitment, Kimberly (the Vintner) and Denise (the Sommelier) became the first African American women-owned winery in the state of Maryland.
"Our vision spans from the various soils drifting below us, merging Maryland’s past discretions with its present hopes and future endeavors. We produce small batch high quality dry wines. Our wines are crafted by Vintner Kimberly T. Johnson; exploring classic and native grape varietals sourced from vineyards in the Maryland area. We incorporate characteristics from the old world as well as new theories of winemaking utilizing French oak barrels and stainless steel fermentation vessels to create wines of unique depth and richness."
