L’Ecole No. 41 is one of Washington State’s most storied and beloved wineries — and this 2022 Columbia Valley Cabernet Sauvignon is a benchmark expression of everything that makes it great. A third-generation, woman-owned family winery operating out of a beautifully restored 1915 schoolhouse in Frenchtown, L’Ecole has spent more than 40 years building direct, long-term partnerships with the oldest and most proven independent growers across the Columbia Valley. The result is a Cabernet of exceptional depth, structure, and cellaring potential — sourced from old vines averaging over 20 years of age, harvested by hand, and matured 22 months in French oak.

Wine Details & Tasting Notes

Tasting Notes: A classic Cabernet Sauvignon profile with a rich core of dark fruit — black cherry and black plum — intertwined with mocha, mint, pencil lead, and distinct herbal nuances of eucalyptus, lavender, and violet. The palate unfolds with layers of blackberry and cassis supported by fine, powdery tannins, creating an expansive and robust structure. The 2022 Columbia Valley vintage was defined by a cooler-than-average growing season with an extended autumn and late-season hang time, allowing the grapes to reach ideal physiological maturity and thick-skinned tannic ripeness well ahead of sugar accumulation.

Food Pairing

The rich dark fruit, fine powdery tannins, and expansive structure of this Columbia Valley Cabernet make it a spectacular match for bold, richly flavored dishes. Pairs beautifully with rosemary-crusted prime rib, wild game, and rack of lamb. The mocha, mint, and eucalyptus notes make it a wonderful companion for rich mushroom risotto, braised short ribs, and herb-crusted roasts. Also excellent alongside sharp aged cheeses, dark chocolate, and a well-curated charcuterie board. Decant 30–45 minutes before serving and enjoy at 62–66°F to allow the wine to fully open and express its complexity. Cellar-worthy through 2032+.
