The label says HER. The team is all of them. Adama Wines is a South African wine company operated and majority-produced by women of color — and the HER Collection is its first branded label, built on a proposition that is genuinely rare in the global wine industry: not just a female winemaker, not just female ownership, but an entirely female team. Every person involved in making HER wines is a woman. Adama Wines sees a profound opportunity in that singularity — to bring like-minded people together, share knowledge, inspire each other, and extend their network across diverse communities in the South African wine industry. HER Wine is a South African wine brand owned by women, produced by women, and built to reflect the insight, energy, and excellence of women as Cape wine producers. At $19, it is one of the most intentional and mission-driven bottles in the entire collection.

The 2023 HER Shiraz comes from sustainably farmed grapes of the highest quality, hand-harvested and destemmed before fermentation in the Cape Winelands of Stellenbosch, Western Cape. Deep garnet in the glass. Aromas of sweet spice and new leather with juicy ripe plum and dark berry flavors on the palate, finished with savory, toasty oak, lingering dark cocoa, and red tree fruit. Medium-bodied, structured, and finely textured with a plump, soft, velvety finish — a Shiraz that delivers both warmth and elegance, and that tastes like it was made by people who care deeply about every decision that went into the bottle. Because it was.

About Adama Wines & the HER Collection

Adama Wines was founded on the belief that the South African wine industry — one of the world’s oldest and most storied — could and should look different. The HER Collection is Adama’s first branded label and its most direct statement of that belief: a wine brand operated and majority-produced by women of color, with an entirely female team at every stage of production. In an industry where female winemakers are still a notable exception rather than the rule, and where Black ownership remains rare, HER represents something genuinely significant. Adama Wines is committed to inclusive community-building, knowledge-sharing, and environmentally sustainable farming — and to proving that the wines produced under those values can stand confidently alongside any in the Cape Winelands. The 2023 HER Shiraz from Stellenbosch is the proof.

Food Pairing

The sweet spice, new leather, ripe plum, dark berry, toasty oak, dark cocoa, and velvety tannins of this Stellenbosch Shiraz make it a naturally versatile and food-forward red that rewards both casual and more considered pairing. Pairs beautifully with braised lamb shoulder, grilled ribeye, and slow-roasted brisket — the plum and dark berry fruit and structured tannins are a natural match for rich, slow-cooked meats. The sweet spice and toasty oak character make it a wonderful companion for Cape Malay-inspired dishes, spiced lamb tagine, and anything with warm, aromatic spice. Also excellent alongside aged hard cheeses, mushroom-based dishes, and a well-stocked charcuterie board. A natural for Shades of Vino Club selections, weeknight dinners, and any occasion that calls for a structured, satisfying red wine at an exceptional value. Serve at 62–66°F.

This is your go-to South African Shiraz — the bottle for Shades of Vino Club selections, value-driven gifting, and sharing with the red wine lover who wants something structured, fruit-forward, and made with genuine purpose. At $19, one of the most intentional and rewarding bottles in the collection.
