A Delicious Guide to Wine Pairings with Your Thanksgiving Meal

Thanksgiving is a special time when friends and family gather. It is also the Super Bowl of wine pairing. The meal is layered with so many different delicious flavors. It can be a little intimidating. But do not worry, The Wine Concierge selected 26 wines to complement your Thanksgiving meal. You will look like a superstar.

Here are some tips to consider when you are planning your menu:

Everyone likes sparkling wine (well, almost everyone)

Sparkling wine is the most versatile wine. It is the little black dress of the wine world; it is suitable for any occasion. A brut Champagne, Crémant, or Cava pairs with many dishes. Turkey, mash potatoes, stuffing, even green bean casserole will be the perfect asset.

Sparkling Rosé pairs nicely with ham and your cheesy side dishes.

Don’t forget dessert. Sweet sparklings, such as a demi-sec or German Sekt, can be enjoyed with sweet potato, pumpkin, and everything on the dessert table.

Let Salt, Fat, and Acid Be Your Guides

Forget about that outdated rule: White meat with white wine and red wine with red meat. Your meal consists of more than a type of meat. What if you don’t eat meat!?! Your meal can be roasted, fried, Sautee served with gravy, and so on.

So, what do you do? Consider how it is prepared and the ingredients. Salt, fat, and acid are significant factors you should consider when selecting wines.

    • Salty Dish: Wines that are acidic, fruity, or crisp are your best bet. Rosé Albariño, Pinot Grigio, Vinho Verde, and Sauvignon Blanc, Cabernet Sauvignon, Riesling and Syrah are great selections.

    • Fatty or Fried Dish: Wines that are rich, tannic, intense, structured, and high fruit concentration will cut through the rich flavors. Sauternes, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Zinfandel, and sparkling wines hits the spot.

    • Acidic Dish: The wine should be equal to or more acidic than the dish. Wines that are high in acid neutralize acidic meals like citrus fruits, tomatoes, and tomato sauces. Pinot Gris, Pinot Blanc, Riesling, Tempranillo, Barbera, and Pugnitello
