Raise a Glass to Pride: Wines From the Winemakers Who Are Changing Everything
June is here, and you know what that means: the flags are flying, the playlists are immaculate, and somewhere, someone is already crying at a parade in the best possible way. Pride Month is a celebration, yes — but it's also a reminder. A reminder to show up for the people and communities who have always shown up for us. To spend our dollars with intention. To raise a glass to the ones who dared to take up space in rooms that weren't always built for them.
At The Wine Concierge, that's not a June-only philosophy. It's the whole point. We've built our cellar around winemakers who are women, Black-owned, minority-led, LGBTQ+-connected, and indigenous — because great wine has never belonged to just one kind of person. And this month, we're making that even more explicit.
So here's our Pride Month wine guide. Every bottle below was chosen because it's delicious and because the story behind it matters. Because at the end of the day, the best wine is the one that makes you feel something — and these will.
🏳️🌈 The LGBTQ+-Owned & Connected Pours: Bubbles, Boldness & Legacy
Let's start with three bottles that were born from Pride — not as a marketing moment, but as a mission.
NV True Colors Cava Brut, Penèdes-Catalonia, Spain — $21.99
This bottle doesn't just support the LGBTQ+ community — it was created for it. True Colors Cava was born from a desire to make something significant: a festive sparkling wine that represents the joy, positivity, and human rights values of the LGBTQ+ movement. A portion of proceeds supports The Rainbow Foundation and their work across Europe. It's tagged LGBTQ+ in our collection, and it earns that designation with every sip.
The wine itself is a classic Cava blend of Parellada, Xarello, Macabeo, and a touch of Chardonnay, aged 14 months for a nose of ripe lemon, fresh brioche, stone fruit, and zesty citrus with persistent, round bubbles. It's a 5-star rated crowd-pleaser that happens to stand for something. "Love is Sparkling… and Social!" — we couldn't agree more.
Pair with: Oysters, shrimp cocktail, charcuterie, or literally any celebration.
2019 Teneral Cellars Estate Barbera, El Dorado County, Sierra Foothills, California — $31
Jill Osur founded Teneral Cellars in 2020 with a mission that goes far beyond the bottle. She is a woman winemaker, woman-owned, female co-owned, and proudly LGBTQ+-owned — and she donates 10% of profits to organizations that empower women and promote gender and racial equity. Wine as a catalyst for change. That's the whole vibe.
The Barbera itself is a revelation: wild blackberry, violet, licorice, ripe plum, tart cherry, and red currant, with undertones of leather, cedar, and sweet baking spice from 18 months in French, American, and neutral oak. Bright acidity, soft tannins, certified organic, and low intervention. This is the bottle you open when you want to drink something that actually means something.
Pair with: Grilled eggplant, pasta with tomato sauce, pizza, charcuterie, or roasted chicken.
2019 Gary Farrell Russian River Selection Pinot Noir — $48.99
This is a wine with layers — and we mean that literally and figuratively. On the nose: Bing cherry, pomegranate, boysenberry, and preserved raspberries. On the palate: cremini mushrooms, cherry cola, white pepper, and clove. On the finish: soft, silky, and abundant with acidity. It's the kind of Pinot Noir that makes you close your eyes and just... be present.
Gary Farrell Winery was founded in 1982 in the Russian River Valley, a region that has long been a haven for the LGBTQ+ community in Northern California. Today, winemaker Theresa Heredia — a woman winemaker — carries that legacy forward with small-lot, Burgundian-styled wines that are as elegant as they are expressive. This bottle is tagged LGBTQ+ in our collection, and it earns every bit of that designation.
Pair with: Duck confit, mushroom risotto, grilled salmon, brie and fig crostini.
🖤 The Black-Owned Pours: Because Representation Is the Whole Vibe
We talk about representation a lot in wine. Here's what it actually looks like in the bottle.
2021 Chosen Family Willamette Valley Pinot Noir, Oregon — $39
The name alone. Chosen Family. If that doesn't speak directly to the heart of Pride Month, we don't know what does. Founded by NBA Champion Channing Frye with a mission to connect people through exceptional wine, Chosen Family is a Black-owned label that believes wine should be at the center of your best memories — not gatekept behind intimidating labels and stuffy tasting rooms.
This Willamette Valley Pinot Noir delivers tart cherries, plums, raspberries, roses, thyme, and spice. It's medium-bodied, crisp, and has real aging potential — but honestly, it's too good to wait on. Open it tonight. Share it with your people. That's the whole point.
Pair with: Herb-roasted chicken, grilled salmon, charcuterie, or your favorite takeout.
2018 Phil Long Alexander Valley Cabernet Sauvignon Reserve — $28.99
This one comes with a love story. Phil and Debra Long founded Longevity Wines in 2003 — a certified minority-owned, Black-owned winery in California's Livermore Valley. Phil designed the heart-shaped logo himself, a tribute to their enduring love. Debra passed away in 2019, but Phil continues to make wine in her honor, and every bottle carries that intention.
The wine itself? Ripe blackberries, cherries, fresh earth, mocha, and sultry vanilla with smooth tannins that just keep getting better. Under $30 for an Alexander Valley Cab with this kind of story and this kind of quality? That's the definition of a find.
Pair with: Grilled ribeye, lamb chops, aged cheddar, dark chocolate.
2017 MNW Oregogne Chardonnay, Willamette Valley — $35
André Hueston Mack is a James Beard Award-nominated sommelier who walked away from fine dining to build something more joyful — Maison Noir Wines, a Black-owned label that makes wine approachable, fun, and deeply intentional. This Chardonnay is everything a summer white should be: flinty minerals, lemon cucumber, green pear, grilled hazelnuts, and a stony finish. No butter bomb. No pretension. Just really, really good wine.
Pair with: Grilled shrimp, lobster, corn on the cob, or a simple roast chicken.
🌹 The Rosé & The Refresher: Because Summer Demands Something Pink
2024 Apaltagua Carménère Estate Grown Rosé, Colchagua Valley, Chile — $17
A rosé for the table that doesn't take itself too seriously — and that's exactly the point. This Chilean beauty is rose petal-colored, clear, and brilliant, with perfumed aromas of tart raspberry, fresh rose, citrus, and a touch of light balsamic and subtle spice. Fresh, dry, medium-bodied, and endlessly food-friendly. At $17, it's the bottle you grab six of (hello, free shipping!) and keep cold all summer long.
Pair with: Grilled fish, summer salads, soft cheeses, tapas, or a sunny patio.
🌍 The Indigenous & Minority-Owned Pour: Wine With Roots
2022 Tohu Sauvignon Blanc, Marlborough, New Zealand — $18.99
Tohu Wines is the world's first Māori-owned wine company — a distinction that matters deeply. Founded in 1998, Tohu is part of Kono, a whānau-owned company with over 4,000 owner families whose purpose is to preserve and enhance their taonga (treasures) for future generations. The wine itself is a single-vineyard Sauvignon Blanc from the high-altitude Awatere Valley: passionfruit, fresh citrus, currant leaf, sweet tropical fruit, herbal notes, and a pure, focused dry finish.
At under $20, this is one of the most meaningful bottles you can put on your table this Pride Month.
Pair with: Grilled fish, goat cheese, fresh herbs, summer salads.
