This is a special wine, we are excited to share.
This single vineyard wine is a unique expression of our high altitude site in the upper reaches of Marlborough’s Awatere Valley. A bright, luminous pale golden green in the glass, it displays aromas of passionfruit, fresh citrus, and currant-leaf on the nose. The concentrated palate is layered with sweet tropical fruit, herbal notes and a touch of zesty minerality - leading to a pure and focused dry finish. Tohu produces award-winning New Zealand wine crafted from grapes grown in our breath-takingly beautiful, Awatere Valley Vineyard. When Tohu launched in 1998 we were the world's first Māori owned wine company.
Representation of indigenous, First Nations people in wine in the Australian and New Zealand outback is difficult to come by. The land and its stewards who cultivate wine are there but not well represented or imported outside the country hardly at all. While the industry strives to change that and acknowledge more of the people, the Māori people and the land of their origins, we want to share Tohu.
Tohu Wines is the world’s first Māori owned wine company. Tohu Wines is part of Kono, a Māori, whānau-owned company based in Te Tauihu , the top of the South Island. With more than 4000 owner families, our purpose is to preserve and enhance our taonga for present and future generations.
