Kuyen is an unusual and complex blend of Syrah, Cabernet, Carmenere and a little Petit Verdot; with racy aromas of cherries and plums and flavors of chocolate and berries, it has a lot of substance and a wonderfully polished tannic structure.  This is a deep, round, dense wine packed with blueberry, chocolate, plum, a hint of smoke, and a cooling herbal aroma. The wine shows great concentration of continued black plum, red berries with notes of graphite all through to the finish. It is deeply layered and shows some toast and spice flavors along with dark chocolate. No fining or filtering and texturally lush. YUM!

In 1996, winemaker Alvaro Espinoza and his family planted two acres of vines around their home in Maipo. In an attempt to fulfill a decades-long dream to make a personal, handcrafted, and instinctively guided wine with the conviction to honestly express the noble soils of the Maipo Valley.

Coming from a long family history of winemakers paired with over 30 years of experience, Espinoza has become one of Chile’s leading organic and biodynamic experts. He is one of the most awarded winemakers in the country.

Kuyen is the Mapuche word for moon. The moon, just like the sun, has a deep relation with organic and biological energies. Ancient farmers knew this and they used to follow the moon cycles to farm the soil for thousands of years.

The vinification takes place in stainless steel tanks, the fermentation is done naturally with native yeasts, with a total maceration period of 25 days, the skins are pressed in a vertical basket press. The wine is aged for 12 months in french oak barrels, up to 3 years of use. No use of finning agents, only natural clarification, the wine passed by an open filtration before bottling.
