The 2018 Casino Mine Ranch Grenache Blanc has a light, crisp flavor with a pale yellow hue and a delicate nose of citrus. It has a pale lemon hue flecked with gold, aromas of acacia, wet gravel, and stone fruits. The finish is clean and crisp, with a hint of minerality. Grenache Blanc is a full-bodied grape that thrives in dry conditions. Wines produced from this grape tend to be higher in alcohol, sitting around 13-15%, along with medium to low acidity and very dry in style. It is a whole-cluster pressed wine that is fermented in neutral French oak and aged for 14 months.
In 1936, Simone Shaw, daughter of an Alaskan miner and Belgian aristocrat, purchased a property in Amador County hoping to find gold. She called it “Casino Mine Ranch” because she knew it would be a gamble to find any gold. Today, more than 80 years later, Simone’s great nephews Jim and Richard Merryman look after the property, which includes a vineyard of an unusual array of grapes. The legendary Andy Erickson and winemaker Jessica Tarpy Shaheen make the wines and a new history is being written for Casino Mine Ranch.
