A juicy wine that opens with expressive aromas of grapefruit, almond, orange peel, and marmalade, layered with complex undertones of ginger and menthol. On the palate, this pale-gold white wine is full-bodied and richly textured, delivering a dry, savory, and slightly grippy profile balanced by a tangy, lively acidity that finishes with lingering notes of orange pith and white peach. 

These sensory traits are a direct result of its unique winemaking process, where hand-picked grapes from the February 2024 harvest spent three days on their skins before undergoing spontaneous fermentation and maturing for 10 months in neutral French oak barrels. The fruit is sourced entirely from a single, low-yielding block of unirrigated old bush vines planted in 1985, which thrive in Stellenbosch's weathered granite soils. 

The wine's name, Sonsteen, translates roughly to "Stony Steen" (or "Sun Stone") in Afrikaans, which directly honors its terroir by referencing both the old "Steen" (the traditional South African term for Chenin Blanc) and the large, weathered granite stones dotting the vineyard floor that absorb the intense afternoon sun. Crafted by a historic, fourth-generation family-owned winery located on the hillsides of the Bottelary region in Stellenbosch. First purchased by the Steytler family in 1946, the farm was renamed "Kaapzicht" (Cape View) in 1984 due to its sweeping, picturesque vistas overlooking Table Mountain and Table Bay. Today, the estate is championed by cellarmaster Danie Steytler Jr. and his wife Carin, who maintain a strong focus on cultivating expressive, old-vine Chenin Blanc and Pinotage that authentically reflect their unique vineyard landscapes.
