The Wine Concierge spent the afternoon with Ms. Alyssa Wolf from Red Wolf Importers during our Wine Lovers Wednesday Facebook Live on March 10.  Alyssa takes us on a guided tasting tour of Portugal. We discuss Portuguese wines. 

Alyssa is a wine importer from Washington, DC. Red Wolf imports wines from South Africa and Portugal.  Alyssa and her husband were inspired to import wines after a trip to South Africa.  They enjoyed so many good wines during their trip. When they tried to purchase the wines in the United States they were not able to locate them. Further, they were not able similar wines at a reasonable price point.   

Alyssa discussed the climate influences that makes Portuguese wines truly special. The coastal area is a cooler climate, near Porto which is a large wine producing area.  We discuss the ruby red sparkling wine, Quinta do Ferro Bruto Tinto Red Sparkling. produced from this area.  It is an uniquely Portuguese sparkling.  It is made from 100% Vinhão. It is a brut style red sparkling wine has flavors of raspberries, blackberry jam, and cranberry. It's both tart and refreshing with a slight creaminess adding complexity and body.
