2023 Terah Sangiovese, Mokelumne River AVA, Lodi, California

This Sangiovese is a fresh and vibrant expression of this Italian varietal. Aromas of ripe red cherries, strawberries, and anise entwined with elegant rusticity. On the palate, the wine unfolds with flavors of juicy strawberries, hints of red plum, and a touch of earthiness that evokes the essence of the varietal. This medium-bodied wine has balanced acidity and its well-integrated tannins provide structure while being an approachable choice.

This Sangiovese beautifully captures the essence of its terroir while paying homage to the varietal's classic characteristics. Sourced from the Rivers Edge Vineyard which was planted in 1995 and sits in sandy loam soils adjacent to the Mokelumne River. The Mokelumne River AVA is located in the greater Lodi AVA. This vineyard benefits from cooler climatic conditions often influenced by the Pacific Ocean and the Mokelumne River. It is farmed with biodynamic practices, Demeter and CCOF organic certified. 

At Terah Wine Co we choose to work with organic, and biodynamic vineyards. We currently purchase fruit from independent growers. Specifically, we want to work with growers who care about the environment, the land, and the people they work with. The belief is that farming greatly dictates overall wine quality, which is always the focus for sourcing. The goal is to find unique microclimates and vineyard sites that are capable of showcasing outstanding expression and are capable of producing expressive, structured, balanced wine.

Terah holds a BS in Finance from San Jose State University and a master’s degree in Enology and Viticulture from Montpellier Supagro in France. She is a Level 2 Certified Sommelier through the Court of Master and holds the WSET Level 3 Award in Wine & Spirits.
