Wine Producer / Historical Notes

Ntsiki Biyela, South Africa’s first Black female winemaker, grew up in KwaZulu-Natal. A South African Airways scholarship brought her to Stellenbosch University to study oenology and viticulture before she had ever tasted wine.

After 13 years as winemaker at Stellekaya, she launched Aslina in 2016, naming the venture after her grandmother. The Black-owned, woman-owned brand reflects her personal heritage and winemaking vision.
