Villiera’s “Down to Earth” name says everything about this wine and the family behind it. A fourth-generation, family-owned estate in Stellenbosch, Villiera has been pioneering sustainable, natural winemaking since cousins Jeff and Simon Grier founded it in 1983. This 2024 white blend — 63% Sauvignon Blanc and 32% Sémillon — is a beautifully balanced, food-friendly expression of Stellenbosch terroir: essentially dry with a touch of sweetness, vibrant tropical fruit from the Sauvignon Blanc, and herbaceous complexity and structure from the Sémillon. Vegan-friendly, IPW certified, and crafted with spontaneous fermentation. A wine that’s as good for the planet as it is in the glass.
Wine Details & Tasting Notes
Tasting Notes: Although essentially dry, the wine has a touch of sweetness on the palate with hints of passion fruit and gooseberries from the Sauvignon Blanc. The Sémillon contributes a more herbaceous, grassy character as well as complexity and balance to the palate — the kind of wine that makes you reach for another glass.

Wine Producer / Historical Notes
Villiera Wines is a fourth-generation family estate in Stellenbosch, founded in 1983 by cousins Jeff and Simon Grier, who embarked on an extensive replanting of classic and local varietals. Cathy Brewer (née Grier) later joined the family team to head up sales, marketing, and export. The Griers have been pioneers in the Cap Classique category and their innovative approach extends across all categories and their business model. As members of the Biodiversity & Wine Initiative, the Grier family is committed to environmental preservation — farming methods include natural pest control (ducks, not insecticide), a solar power facility, a wildlife preserve, water conservation and recycling programs, and greening projects to reduce the winery’s carbon footprint. A wildlife sanctuary on the farm showcases the extent of the family’s commitment to preserving local wildlife. Villiera also cares deeply for its workers and neighbors — accredited by WIETA (Wine and Agricultural Ethical Trading Association) and BEE Empowered, and participating in the Pebbles Project, which provides education for disadvantaged children in the winelands.
