2023 Khayelitsha's Finest "KFW" Chenin-Sauvignon Blanc-Semillon Blend, Western Cape, South Africa

A Chenin Blanc-led, Semillon and Sauvignon Blanc Western Cape blend layered with peach, pear, nectarine and melon, lifted by citrus zest and tropical fruit with honeycomb and biscotti adding savory depth. Fresh, zesty acidity carries into a rounded mid-palate and long finish, giving the wine a balance of brightness and texture rather than simply crispness. That combination makes it especially appealing for early fall: refreshing enough for warmer afternoons, yet its ripe orchard fruit, honeyed nuance and fuller mid-palate have enough substance for cooler evenings and richer seasonal foods.

Founder and wine négociant Lindile Ndzaba launched Khayelitsha’s Finest Wines in 2018 as a 100% Black-owned brand rooted in the Cape Town township where he was born, raised and still lives. After entering hospitality as a dishwasher in 2009, Ndzaba worked his way into restaurant management and learned wine through sommeliers and winemaker tastings, eventually recognizing the divide between Cape Town’s celebrated wine culture and the quality and access available in Khayelitsha. Without his own vineyard or cellar, he developed KFW as a small-batch négociant project, sourcing across the Western Cape and collaborating directly with established winemakers and vineyards—including The Fledge & Co.’s Leon Coetzee and Saxenburg’s Dirk van Zyl—to curate his blends. His mission extends beyond ownership: KFW hosts tastings and pairs its wines with traditional African foods to make fine-wine appreciation more accessible while creating a distinctly Khayelitsha-centered voice within an industry where Black ownership remains notably underrepresented.
