2023 Mcpherson EVS (Earth-Vine-Sky) Windblown Red, Texas High Plains AVA, Texas

Imagine standing in the middle of a vineyard, suspended in a landscape of Earth, Vine, and Sky. Each plays its essential role in the creation of this red blend, five grapes harmonizing to the rhythms of Texas terroir. Cherry sauce, lilac, and mesquite mingle on the nose, while the palate is as red and vibrant as the last stripes of harvest sunset. The taste of fennel seed, black tea, and woodsy vanilla-bean linger in a fine dusting of mouth-coating tannin. This is true grilling wine, born to B-B-Q.

McPherson Cellars is an award-winning urban winery located in downtown Lubbock, Texas, in the historic Depot District. It honors Dr. Clinton "Doc" McPherson, a pioneer of the modern Texas wine industry. Few people have the capacity to imagine something that doesn’t exist yet. Dr. Clinton ‘Doc’ McPherson was one of those rare dreamers, a man who looked at the hot, dry flatlands of the Texas plains and pictured a garden. In the late ‘60s, he began planting experimental grapes in Lubbock, testing different varieties for their ability to yield quality fruit in a new environment. The Sangiovese he planted in his Sagmor Vineyard was the first in Texas, and still produces fruit for McPherson’s best known wines. Doc would play a pivotal role in the founding of the Texas High Plains AVA, paving the way for the next generation of Texas winemakers with his abundant humor and irrepressible curiosity. However, winemaking truly is a family affair, as Kim's daughter Kassandra (Kassie) McPherson is actively involved in the winery operations, vineyard work, but as stepped aside for Doc's son Kim to oversee Mcpherson, while Kassie now also runs her own label, Las Espinas.
